Not much to say today about yesterday, I had a real off day. To start with it was raining and cold I was not looking forward to riding and my legs also refused. Got shelled out and rode solo to finish, purely for training, you understand, oh and also to claim 1st. G cat of course.
The event was extremely well run again by Derek’s son Sean and I must give a vote of thanks to him and all who turned out in such foul weather, especially the marshalls who must have hated it more than me.
Talking to Richard Booth afterwards, who himself had a near disaster on lap three. Dropping down to the bottom corner of the circuit there is a 300 degree turn to climb back up to Norland. He was riding carbon fibre rims which are notorious in the wet, the back wheel suddenly locked up and he fishtailed right in front of me, then sensibly let it go and carried on missing the left turn. So he had to play catch up on the ascent, Still he has got the strength! He informed me that the bunch stayed together for the gallop where Ken Corbett won the race.
The only sensible people were those who did not start.
As an aside this course goes by Norland Golf club’s course, they’re even madder than us, I mean following a little white ball round a field in those conditions!
