AB RACE REPORT FROM PHIL RAYNER
Got the win !! Very tough though ,had to fight for it.Went away on 1st 16 mile lap with 4 others ,Jason Meyer,Ian Holbrook , Andy Prince, and Ian Foster. After 20 miles 3 riders bridged across , Conor O'Brien , Richard Shimmel , and Nick Bosworth, followed by another 3 after another 10 miles, Mike Twelves , Jon Stevenson , and Pete Georgi.
So, into last lap 11 riders at the front... too many, so attacks and counter attacks started, culminating in two riders Pete Georgi and Andy Prince going clear and out of sight .Big attack by Jason Meyer , myself and Mike Twelves on the last ,mile long climb brought the escapees back with 2km to go.
We hesitated before the sprint ..as you do, and two riders from behind came flying past (Richard Shimmell and Ian Holbrook), so I had no choice but to start my sprint early with 300m to go getting by Holbrook and Shimmel before the line.
CD RACE REPORT FROM NICK GILES
This was a race of 2 halves with a lone break on the first lap then a winning solo effort with a lap and half to go. With the weather threatening rain, it was case of fingers crossed for the riders as this circuit with its sharp rises and twisty descents would have been dicey! Luckily though it worked out fine and the racing got underway, with a solo attack half way round the first lap, being slowly brought back by the 20-25 riders which started. From then on there were a few flurries, but all told it was quite a negative race as riders were either worried about the circuit or just saving their energies for the final lap. With just over a lap and half to go John French surged away and soon was out of sight and mind, with the others happy to let him go, building up an untroubled 2 minute lead by the end. With 2km to the finish the rest of the group were teeing up for the inevitable sprint, which unlucky for us was hampered by two out of control horses rearing up over the road. 5 or 6 riders crept through leaving the rest to come to a virtual halt to allow the horse riders to calm the situation. In reality the 5 or so riders should have eased to allow the others to catch up and contest the finish, but alas, they powered on and sprinted for the remaining podium places.
EFG RACE REPORT FROM DON PARRY
This race over 55 miles takes place on a very tough 16 mile circuit near Malvern. It was a dry, bright but cold day with a stiff wind for the riders to confront on the run in to the finish. In the over 60’s race Don Parry Team Corley broke away from an initial selection of 9 riders to complete two laps on his own finishing over 5 minutes clear of the remains of the peloton. Second win of the season. Martin Hackley,Team Jewson was second and Lance Ravenhill third.
