Stourport is a purpose built cycling track, about 1.5km long, silky smooth road surface that rolls gently up and down, it has various turns both left and right but its main features are two gently banked hairpins.

The race started off at a fairly sedate pace with I'd guess around 15 riders in the bunch, this was scheduled for 50 minutes + 5 laps, usually in a shorter event the attacks come thick and fast and this race was no exception. By half way through we were down to group of six who quickly pulled away about a 20 second lead. There were two Brooks riders in this group who of course worked as a team to make sure one was attacking while the other sat on and vice versa. This certainly made for interesting racing.

After attack, counter attack and chasing for the majority of the next 20 minutes or so the pace dropped as the six riders (myself included) started plotting the best strategy for the finish. The lull in the pace allowed a number of riders who had been chasing to get back onto the group... I'm not quite sure how many.

I decided to go for a long one, sprinted out of the hairpin and just kept going as hard as I could through the following two corners up to the line, I could hear someone catching me as I was going up to the finishing line and I either managed to lose 1st place or hang on to 2nd in the lunge for the line.

After some time spent looking at video reviews the verdict came back and confirmed what I already knew, 2nd place by a wheel length, a fine finish by Chris Horsfield from Brooks to take the win fair and square.

Overall a very good race, excellent facilities and organisation so thank you to all concerned from Wyre Forest CRC for this.
